I could write much more but the fact that my kiddos can use this for free, and I have the ability to go in and change whatever I want even down to the engine level puts it far beyond minecraft to me. If you want to add mods you can and I even have some that can be toggled on and off. Also, in my opinion, features have already been added to my version of the game that can't be easily added via minecraft mods, and also, you don't have to even add mods with this, just download and go. As a developer this is a very exciting piece of software because not only is it open source but it does have a modding API through Lua and it is extremely easy to create and test your own mods. Minecraft does have mods yes, but modding for it is very difficult and they have not released the modding API they have promised a long time ago.
